The Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time... (so far?)

The rolling stones, great band, great magazine so when, on the 9th december 2004 they released there top 500 greatest songs of all time it felt like prays had been answered. It was a juicy offering of music our parents rocked out to, some we knew some we didn’t, but it remains a classic band of anthems that can be popped in a CD player and played whatever the occasion. The songs were hand picked based on votes from 172 musicians, critics and music-industry figures. It’d be difficult to put into words and singularly give each song the praise it deserves (plus it would take hours) but the collection does not disappoint. From sweet playful rifts at the hand of Prince to the thrashing guitar notes of Nirvana this truly is an album that starts convosations at parties.
It opened your eyes to a whole new side of music changing the listener’s music world forever. Songs by bands you love but didn’t know about a b-side, old favourites whilst opening your eyes to a whole new world of ‘rock’n’roll’.

A top ten was complied to let you know which was the most voted for, Bob Dylan took the number one spot with “like a rolling stone” The Rolling stones stole number two with “I cant get no satisfaction” with the list going on with bands such as Nirvana (number 9 “smells like teen spirit”) the beach boys (number 6 “good vibrations”) of course the Beatles (number 8 “hey Jude”) as well as the solo acts from john Lennon, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Chuck Berry and Ray Charles.

In May 2010, Rolling Stone compiled an updated list.
The first album was a celebration of the 60 years of music spanning from the 1940’s up until 2004 when the album was released and shouldn’t it stay that way? Can you be updating the 500 greatest songs of all time? Surely the name should be changed to the greatest songs to date? The newer version is to soon and the songs added aren’t classics yet, the first album represent iconic music, songs you all sang along to, songs that reminded you of good times, songs your parents introduced you to and will always remind you of them but the new one? Maybe they should have waited another 60 years?
